County child support collection rate best of metros

Hot Topics

Staff report 10:55 PM Friday, August 7, 2009

DAYTON — The Montgomery County Child Support Enforcement Agency’s 68.11 percent collection rate on current support ranks first among Ohio’s six major metro counties for collection of such support as of June, according to the county’s Department of Job and Family Services.

The agency collected more than $107 million in 2008, a 2.9 percent increase over 2007.

The county provides child support services for 79,883 children annually and has 60,426 child support cases.

For more about child support, call (937) 225-4600 or go to mcohio.org/services. Payments can be checked 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling (800) 860-2555.

People reading/commenting on this article seem to be disgusted, upset with the Agency, yet dead beat parents who don't pay and 25,475 children who are not being properly taken care of is the Agency's fault? Society's "acceptance" of the single-parent lifestyle, rather than the "traditional" family household for raising children, is at the root of the breakdown of Society.
God bless those who work for Welfare and Child Support and Children's Services, for trying to make a difference.
disgusted, too

I can't believe there is an article that is talking about a collection rate of 68.11% for child support as a good thing. Come on now. Based on the data above, we are talking about approximately 19,270 dead beat parents who don't pay and 25,475 children who are not being properly taken care of by their partents. And yet this article is betraying the Montgomery County Child Support Enforcement Agency as the best. How pathetic.
What a Joke

If 68.11% is considered "the best" then a complete overhaul of the system needs to be done. My ex has also done prison time for non-payment and I still don't collect. I gave up on the system a loooong time ago. I too have worked to take care of mine, so please don't let wlefare be the excuse.
