Montgomery County will layoff as many as 27 people, demolish the former Family Courts Building and give Thomas Cloud Park to Huber Heights as part of a mid-year round of budget cuts approved by county commissioners on Tuesday, June 9.
The courts building formerly housed the juvenile detention center and was slated to be the site of consolidated adult probation services.
Instead, 150 employees will move to the Reibold Building. The old Family Courts building, at 303 W. Second St., will be replaced by a paved parking lot.
Layoffs will occur in the sheriff’s office, the clerk of courts, the public works department, and engineering, said county Administrator Deborah Feldman.
Another 22 vacant positions will be abolished under the revised $154.8 million General Fund budget plan approved by commissioners. The budget was cut from $157.9 million due to declining revenues that led to a $7.6 million deficit.
All county elected officials and department heads cut their budgets by 2.5 percent.
Feldman said the number of people who are laid off could vary depending on how many people choose to accept a voluntary separation plan offered earlier this year, and whether employees transfer to jobs that are not paid from the General Fund.
“This has been a real hard couple of months,” said Commissioner Debbie Lieberman. “We will get through this.”
