BETHEL TWP., Miami County — A Springfield woman died Saturday, Oct. 17, at the scene of a one-car crash in southeastern Miami County also as a result of diabetic and heart attacks, Miami County Coroner Bruce Nordquist said.
Christine G. James, 75, of Springfield was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash in the 9500 block of Bellefontaine Road in Miami County, near the boundaries of Montgomery and Clark counties. There were no other injuries.
James, who had other health problems, awoke off the road in a cornfield on a different occasion, authorities said.
After an investigation, Nordquist said he determined James suffered a hypoglycemic attack due to low blood sugar that caused her southbound car to weave and nearly hit an oncoming car before crashing into a tree.
The collision probably triggered a heart attack, which also contributed to James’ death, Nordquist said.
