COLUMBUS — Unemployment in Dayton and Montgomery County edged up in April as the region continued to feel the effects of the recession.
The April rate in Montgomery County was 11.4 percent, up from 11.3 percent in March and up from 6.9 percent in April 2008.
The Montgomery County rate was the highest since March 1983 when it was 11.9 percent.
In Dayton, the jobless rate for April was 12.5 percent, up from 12.4 percent in March and up from 7.9 percent in April 2008. The rate for Dayton was the highest since a 12.7 percent rate in May 1984.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released the unemployment rates for Ohio counties and major cities on Tuesday, May 26. The local rates are not seasonally adjusted.
The statewide seasonally adjusted and unseasonally adjusted rates for April, released last week, both were 10.2 percent.
In the Dayton area, Preble County’s 13.1 percent rate was the highest among counties; Trotwood’s 13.7 percent rate was the highest for cities.
Statewide, the highest rate among counties was 16.3 percent in Williams County.
