DAYTON — Two new economic development districts in southern Montgomery County were approved by Montgomery County Commissioners on Tuesday, June 16.
Commissioners approved what County Administrator Deborah Feldman called a “foundation” Joint Economic Development District for the area near the Austin Boulevard interchange being built at Interstate 75.
The district is about 40 acres of government owned land and officials hope the developers of the 1,200 acres of land in the vicinity of the interchange will sign on to the JEDD later.
She said the property owners like RG Properties or Oberer are not obligated to join the JEDD but the foundation has now been set for them to join later.
JEDDs allow city income taxes to be levied outside municipalities and permit the sharing of those revenues by townships and cities.
Springboro, Miami Twp. and Miamisburg have already approved the JEDD.
Commissioners also approved a JEDD for seven Miami Twp. parcels near the Dayton Mall. That JEDD consists of the township, Miamisburg and the county.
