FAIRBORN — A man escaped a fire at his home at 31 Ramona Drive at 4:53 a.m. Friday, March 12, but ended up at Miami Valley Hospital being checked for minor injuries and possible smoke inhalation after he tried to go back in to rescue his dog and her nine new-born puppies.

According to WHIO-TV reporter Mike Campbell, firefighters were able to rescue the puppies but at least one, and possibly two, adult dogs died in the fire.

The man’s wife and two children were not home at the time, he said.

Firefighters had to break through the roof and ceiling to fight hot spots from the fire. They had no cause or estimate of the damage cost at this time, though the house was heavily damaged, according to Campbell.
