DAYTON — Five Rivers MetroParks has been recognized as a “bronze-level” bike-friendly business by the League of American Bicyclists.

The designation was announced Sept. 14 at the Interbike trade expo in Las Vegas.

Five Rivers, which opened its new Bike Hub at Riverscape this year and is a key partner in maintaining, expanding and supervising the Miami Valley’s system of recreational trails, was listed among 111 new bicycle-friendly business that “actively promote bicycling for transportation, recreation, exercise and sport.”

More than 340 businesses in 40 states were named, including four others in Ohio — three businesses in Columbus and one in Cincinnati.

Five Rivers is the only park district in the country on the list.

In 2010, the City of Dayton achieve bronze-level status as a bicycle-friendly community. There are also silver and gold levels.
