Gasoline prices are continuing to drop in the Dayton area and now stand about 22 cents per gallon below the current national average, according to DaytonGasPrices.com.

The Website said the Tuesday, July 21, average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline in the Dayton area is currently $2.23 compared to a national average of $2.45.

Local motorists are paying about 11 cents less per gallon than they were a week ago and 37 cents less than a month ago. Local prices climbed to $2.85 in early June and have been declining ever since, except for a short uptick leading into the Independence Day weekend.

DaytonGasPrices.com bases its tracking of local gas prices on voluntary reports from motorists who e-mail the site with prices they spot at area gas stations.

The lowest prices in the 36 hours leading up to Tuesday morning were found in Springfield where many stations were selling gasoline for $2.08 to $2.12 per gallon.

A few stations were selling gas in the $2.30s, but the most common top price in most neighborhoods was $2.29.
