St. PARIS — After discussions with 17 candidates for superintendent, Graham School Board members have narrowed the list of potential candidates to four.
The district’s school board is seeking a replacement for Jim Zerkle, who announced his retirement this spring.
Finalists for the position include Jake Conley, middle school principal at Graham Local Schools, Larry Claypool, superintendent at Hardin Northern Local Schools in Dola, OH., Chad Hill, a high school principal at Vandalia Butler City Schools, and Norm Glismann, superintendent at Yellow Springs Exempted Village School District.
District Treasurer Ryan Jenkins said those four candidates stood out to board members after initial interviews, including a questionnaire.
“They answered those questions most consistently with what we feel fit most with our district,” Jenkins said.
Board members will meet with the four candidates a second time, and special meetings are scheduled for July 15 and 16.
Jenkins said the list of candidates could be cut again to two or three finalists. They would likely meet with the board again the week of July 20.
The board is planning to have a new superintendent in place by July 27, and the position will likely begin by Aug. 1, Jenkins said.
However, there is also some leeway if it becomes necessary to delay the hiring. Zerkle’s contract allows him to end his tenure either on Aug. 31 or Dec. 31. He could stay on with the district while the new superintendent becomes familiar with the job, or if the new superintendent is not able to begin by the beginning of next month.
