TROTWOOD, Montgomery County — A local non-profit organization will hold a groundbreaking ceremony today for the new Clyde Waites Playground in Drexel.
Helping Hands Community Outreach will host the ceremony at 12 p.m. at the playground site and location of the Church of the Nazarene, 143 Miller Ave. The late Clyde Waites was the longtime pastor of the church, whose members helped the non-profit acquire the land for the playground and the proposed park where the playground will be located.
“(Waites) was instrumental in helping us obtain the property,” said Neldra Glasper, founder and executive director of Helping Hands. The organization is based at 6499 W. Third St. in Drexel, a small community located off of West Third Street right before the US 35 interchange.
Donations from the community and a $27,000 Montgomery County Solid Waste District grant helped the organization to get the ball rolling on the proposed park. “We still need to raise about $25,000 more,” Glasper said.
Anyone interested in donating can contact Helping Hands Community Outreach at (937) 938-9231.
