CENTERVILLE — The new signs are already in place.
On Monday, June 29, with the official opening of its new in-patient unit, Miami Valley South Health Center will become Miami Valley Hospital South.
Up until now, the hospital, at 2400 Miami Valley Drive, south of the Wilmington Pike/Clyo Road intersection, has had a strictly out-patient focus, said Nancy Thickel, manager of public relations for Miami Valley Hospital.
“It will now offer complete patient care, with admission to the hospital for short stays,” she said. The new in-patient unit will have 10 patient beds, with an additional four observation beds, the latter for patient observation for 23 hours before going home. If the observation is for 23 rather than 24 hours, it’s not a hospital admission, she said.
Most of the patients using the hospital beds will probably be coming from the emergency department at the hospital, Thickel said. Rather than transporting them to the main hospital campus in Dayton for a short stay, they will remain at the Centerville location. An example might be patients with an infection that might need an IV, or someone who needs to be observed for a while before going home, she said.
Patients will still be transported to the main campus by the hospital’s mobile intensive care unit or CareFlight if there’s a need for that, she said.
The official ribbon cutting for the new unit is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, Thickel said. Centerville and Washington Twp. officials and employees have been invited to attend, she said.
