High winds, hail possible this afternoon

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather notice for the Dayton area on Tuesday, warning that a few severe thunderstorms with possible high winds and hail are expected Tuesday afternoon.

A flood advisory issued for northwestern Montgomery County and northern Preble County expired at 7:45 a.m. The flood advisory warned that minor flooding had been spotted in the area of Eldorado in Preble County early Tuesday. A spotter said fields in the area were flooded with some water running over roads.

Jim Lott, a meteorologist for the weather service’s Wilmington forecast office, said two to three inches of rain fell during early morning hours in northern Preble and northwestern Montgomery counties as a line of strong thunderstorms moved through the area.

The storms featured lots of lightning, but the wind was not particularly strong, Lott said. Penny-sized hail was reported in Brookville, Miamisburg and east of Lebanon.

At the height of the storm, 1,150 customers of Dayton Power & Light Co. lost electrical service, said DP&L spokespersom Mary Beth Weaver. The outages were caused by lightning, wind and heavy rain, she said.

Weaver said the outages were mostly in Englewood, Eaton and Dayton. By 9 a.m., power was restored to all but about 340 households, she said.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 83 and an overnight low of 64. More showers are likely Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday should be mostly sunny with a high around 77, the weather service predicts.

And now all of the threat of storms have been taken out of the forecast. I'm so sick of the National Weather Service and their ridiculous guessing. One of the few jobs you can be wrong everyday and still get paid.

Hey Seriously:
Who asked you? So you get to criticize the critics?
People who write for a newspaper ought to be able to spell a two-syllable word.
Oh. I forgot. This is DAYTON!
