KETTERING — Fire Chief Robert Miles resigned last week after 10 years with the department, the last four as chief.
“Chief Miles tendered his resignation, and it has been accepted by the city of Kettering,” City Manager Mark Schwieterman said Wednesday.
Miles, 53, was cited Oct. 2 for driving while intoxicated by the Xenia post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. As a result, he was placed on paid administrative leave while the city conducted an internal investigation.
Miles, a Kettering resident, was off-duty at the time of the incident. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and had no previous record for OVI in Ohio.
He could not be reached for comment.
Schwieterman said the city had not finalized a process for the hiring a new fire chief.
“The city administration and the fire department will now move forward with the hiring of a fire chief and the continuation of providing excellent service to the city of Kettering,” he said.
Assistant Fire Chief Terry Jones, who has been acting chief since Miles was placed on leave, will continue in that capacity until a new chief is named.
Schwieterman said he accepted Miles’ resignation because he believed it was in the best interest of the city and added: “I wish Chief Miles and his family well.”
