KETTERING — Kettering City Schools has filled two principal positions and one administrative positions, according to Kari Basson, district spokeswoman.
Dan Von Handorf is the new Fairmont High School principal. Von Handorf, who is currently the South Unit principal at the high school, came to the district in 1997. Before becoming a principal in 2004, he was a chemistry teacher. He and his wife, Mackenzie, have two daughters.
Von Handorf replaces Jim Schoenlein, who was appointed this month as the district’s interim superintendent.
Valerie Dupler is the new J.E. Prass Elementary School principal. Dupler, who is the current principal of Moraine Meadows Elementary, came to the district in 1997 as a special education teacher at Kettering Middle School. Dupler and her husband, Norm, have three sons.
Dupler replaces Rich Bowden, who retires June 30.
Norm Knowlton has been named the district’s director of curriculum and instruction and will oversee the curriculum issues for grades K-12. Knowlton, who is the current director of elementary education, came to the district in 1995. Prior to becoming a district administrator, Knowlton was assistant principal at Kettering Middle School and principal at Beavertown Elementary. He is married to Sandy.
Knowlton replaces Schoenlein, who served a dual role — high school principal and curriculum director — in the district.
