BEAVERCREEK — When school board members had to replace a superintendent who many considered the district’s “biggest cheerleader,” they were looking for many attributes.
It was experience, leadership and success at the ballot box that put Lebanon Superintendent Mark North above 10 other applicants as the choice to replace Beavercreek Superintendent Dennis Morrison, who will leave July 31, board President Richard Eckhardt said.
“He did very well in the interview process,” Eckhardt said, noting that North had the right mix of experience and knowledge about the challenges facing Ohio schools.
Coming to work in Beavercreek is the culmination of a career’s worth of hard work, North said.
“I’ve always wanted to be a superintendent in a large district,” he said. “This is what I’ve been working toward for many years.”
North will earn $139,000 when he takes the helm in Beavercreek on Aug. 1, a raise from the $132,420 salary he earns in Lebanon, where he has worked since 2006.
Like many administrators, North has worked his way up through progressively larger districts for jobs with greater responsibilities. North has been an administrator in six Ohio districts the past two decades.
“Coming to a school district of Beavercreek’s size is a natural step for him,” Eckhardt said.
North is not alone in changing jobs, as Kettering, Centerville, Greeneview, Northmont and Warren County’s Franklin and Kings school districts have hired new leadership in the past year.
