LEWISBURG — Services will be Sunday, July 11, for Mayor David E. Scott, who died Thursday after an extended illness. Mr. Scott, 70, was serving the final year of his second term as mayor.

“He truly cared and was truly dedicated to the village of Lewisburg, its citizens and its businesses,” Municipal Manager Jeff Sewert said. “Our prayers are with his family.”

Lewisburg is 25 miles northwest of Dayton in Preble County.

Mr. Scott served at least one term as a village council member before being elected mayor, Sewert said.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from H&H Sales, where he sold industrial lighting. At the time of his death, he was president of the Lewisburg Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Lewisburg, the Lewisburg Historical Society and the Preble County Republican Party Central Committee.

Mr. Scott also was a volunteer for the Dayton Area Red Cross, a referee and coach for numerous high school sports and a softball coach for Wright State University.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyann; daughters Cassandra Pego of Minnesota, Karen Scott-Pine and Aimee Kral, both of Clayton, and Cheryl Keely of Louisville, Ky; sisters Sybil Scott and Myrna Scott, both of Illinois, and nephew Eduardo Scott of Illnois.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church. Contributions may be made to the Lewisburg Area Chamber of Commerce or the Twin Creek Old Fashion Christmas Tree Fund.

Barnes Funeral Home in Lewisburg (www.barnesfuneralhome.com) is handling arrangements.
