DAYTON — For the next seven weeks, travelers down Wayne Avenue near Fourth Street will see ten artists with diverse styles all working to beautify the train overpass between the Oregon and Cannery districts.
Eight of the artists were chosen by a panel of judges, and the final two were selected through a vote during last week’s Urban Nights.
The artists may start work next week and the murals are to be complete by November’s First Friday, Nov. 6.
Each artist will receive a stipend of $125 when they complete their work through a grant secured by a partnership between the updayton initiatives Wayne Avenue Corridor Committee and the Southeast Priority Board.
The selected artists are: Brent Beck, Emily Burkman, Constance Hanselman, Char Hinkley (of Kettering,) Daniel Reibert, Heather Reid, Angela Stump, Kathryn Sturm and Marci Duckro (from the University of Dayton’s ArtStreet), Travis Tarbox (of Yellow Springs) and Christopher ‘eTch’ Weyrich (who currently has a mural in Garden Station).
This project is sponsored by updayton’s Wayne Avenue Corridor Committee that is striving to make the area that connects the Oregon and Cannery Districts more “walkable.”
