Local Buckeye Bash a “bust”

Hot Topics

KETTERING — The Buckeye Bash today, Saturday, Nov. 21, was flagged for technical difficulties.

The charity fund-raising event sponsored by Dayton Commercial Realty at 3085 Woodman Drive was to have featured the annual showdown between the Ohio State University and University of Michigan on a giant Jumbotron screen.

At the game’s kickoff, the Jumbotron was not receiving a satellite TV signal.

“One word: bust,” said Chris Hickey of Dayton.

A DirecTV technician had been called to address the reception issues, said Lori Anderson of Unified Health Solutions, which shares in the proceeds with the Knights of Columbus.

“This has never happened,” said Anderson, an organizer of the event.

The Buckeye Bashes are now in their fourth year. “This is the fourth event this season,” Anderson said.

The bash was scheduled to run from noon to midnight. It also featured a silent auction with Ohio State collectibles, including a Woody Hayes autograph, and casino-style games.

The event typically draws more than 100 people, Anderson said. However, most fans had left by game time in search of a working TV.

“Ohio State just scored. We’re up 7-0,” declared Tammy Tumbilson of Dayton early in the first quarter.

How did she follow the score?

“Blackberry,” Tumbilson said, smiling and raising her hand-held device.

I agree!

"Unified Health Solutions is a local non-profit agency that receives federal, state and county funds (tax $) for prevention & intervention programs to school aged children in Montgomery Co. Why are they sponsoring a Buckeye Bash? The only $$ they receive from this fund raiser is from alcohol sales. They receive funds from Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) board. Is ADAMHS aware of this fund raiser? Is this how our tax money is being spent by non-profits?"

What, I think is really sad is Lori, who apparently is the PRESIDENT of Unified Health Solutions, was no where to be found during the 'outage'. I was told that she had gone home. Way to lead your company Lori! You could have at least encouraged people to come back during halftime (assuming you fixed it by then!!!!!). It was also sad that there was ZERO heat in the tent (as it was advertised as heated tents). It was warmer outside than inside!!! BUST is right on this one!!!

Sandy always sounds like Sandy Mendelson, the slumlord junk dealer that thinks downtown Dayton is his kingdom. Who in their right mind would go downtown to buy someone's discarded crap? This "business man" is going to save your town by selling his junk and the overpriced land that he owns around the ballpark. GET REAL!!! Follow his remarks. They are stupid as stupid can be.

Hey joe, what you meant to say that the TV would have been stolen from YOU if you were in charge because you are too stupid or scared to live around petty crime. I'm going to assume you don't own a gun and are afraid of your own shadow. But don't worry, there are plenty of places without crime where folks with small genitals like you can run and hide.
yeah right

Hey Sandy, The TV would have been stolen during the signal check if it was held in Dayton. Don't worry, you may be able to move out here to Kettering when the DMHA find morehousing here.
