MIDDLETOWN — William “Kip” Moore has always loved the performing arts — and soon working in them will become his full-time job.
Starting March 29, Moore will become the performing arts director for the new Ray and Joan Kroc Center of the Salvation Army in Dayton.
For many years, performing and staging theater shows has been a ministry for Moore, and this new opportunity “was kind of like a blessing. This is a dream come true. This will be the first time my dream becomes a job,” he said.
The new facility, at the corner of Keowee and Webster streets in Dayton, has a sanctuary/theater that can host performing arts events.
Moore’s first order of business will be to coordinate a summer theater camp for kids, he said. The activities there will be open to people throughout the area, and not just in Dayton, he said.
“I believe he’s so fully qualified to begin this,” Maj. Tom Duperree, a commander at Dayton’s Salvation Army chapter, said of Moore.
Duperree has known Moore for eight years, through a former Salvation Army employee who was friends with Moore.
“When I heard him sing, I fell in love with him right away,” Duperree said.
Consequently, Moore began to perform at some Salvation Army events, including the groundbreaking of the facility.
“The passion that has been in his heart for so long is to have a full-time ministry in performance. He was the only person I thought of (for the job),” Duperree said.
Moore has performed with a number of local organizations, including Middletown Lyric Theatre, and said he will continue to perform in the Middletown area as time allows.
