Man, 50, dead after vehicle, semi collide

LAURA, Miami County — A 50-year-old Gettysburg man is dead after his vehicle was struck by a semi on Ohio 571 at Ohio 55, just east of Laura.

The accident happened about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Miami County sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Whaley said an eastbound semi went left of center and hit the westbound vehicle.

The driver of the semi was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. No details about her injuries were available.

The names of the victims were not released.

The Laura fire department was first on scene, and were joined by emergency crews from West Milton and Union Twp. in assisting the sheriff’s office.

Ohio 571 in the area of the accident was closed for the investigators, Whaley said, but was expected to reopen by 8 p.m.
