FRANKLIN TWP., Warren County — A 22-year-old Middletown man fled the scene after hitting a guardrail and flipping his girlfriend’s Gold Honda CRV on northbound Interstate 75 at the 40 mile marker, just north of Ohio 73 at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 9.
According to Ohio Highway Patrol Dispatcher Tiffany Coy, of the Lebanon Post of the Ohio State Patrol, Brandon Baker, 22, of Middletown was reported to be the driver by the vehicle’s owner, who was not in the car.
Coy said the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail before overturning. The accident caused both northbound lanes to be completely blocked until 3:30 a.m., when the scene was cleared, Coy said.
WHIO-TV reporter Mike Campbell said police believe speed might have been a factor in causing the accident. He said police said it was not known if alcohol was involved.
Because of this accident, the left lane of northbound I-75 at the Pennyroyal overpass, which is one mile north of Ohio 73 at mile marker 38, will be closed until 1 p.m. today, March 9, as crews work to replace the guardrail protecting a cantilever sign. The guardrail was removed due to damage from the overnight accident, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
