DAYTON — Although there were no reports of serious accidents after early morning snow left roads slippery, there were numerous accidents in the Dayton area.
There were several minor accidents on Route 35 eastbound, near the Steve Whalen Boulevard exit, said a Dayton police dispatcher. None appeared to be serious, but the road was closed for about an hour between Steve Whalen and Ludlow so the road could be treated and accidents cleared. It re-opened at about 9:30 a.m.
“People are just running into each other because of the ice,” he said.
The National Weather Service reports that slick roads will be possible throughout the morning due to areas of freezing drizzle. Temperatures will also remain below freezing, complicating driving matters.
Motorists should be particularly careful on bridges and overpasses, the weather service said.
Also reported were accidents at :
• I-75 north at Stanley Avenue.
• I-75 north at Route 4.
• I-75 south at Third Street.
• I-75 north at Third Street.
•I-75 and Route 35 interchange.
• The 600 block of James H. McGee.
He gave motorists a simple suggestion.
“Stay off 75,” he said.
Miami Twp. Police responded to a report of a car in a ditch at Shoup Mill Road and Riverside Drive at around 6:30 a.m.
In Miami County, the sheriff’s office reported accidents on roadways in both north and south parts of the county, but all were minor.
Meanwhile Route 48 through Kettering and Oakwood remained clear and “just wet.”
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and police departments reported no accidents, nor did the Warren County Sheriff’s Office or the Lebanon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
