Latest developments in the move of NCR from Dayton:
- NCR announced on Tuesday morning that it would move its headquarters to
Duluth, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta. The move means of the loss of nearly
1,300 local jobs and Dayton’s sole Fortune 500 corporate headquarters.
- More details are expected from a press conference in Georgia this
afternoon, where a ceremonial announcement of the relocation is expected.
- Ohio officials made a last-ditch offer on Monday of $31 million in
incentives for NCR to stay in Ohio.
- After the move, NCR's presence in Dayton will be very small — a data
center and local sales and service operations.
- Many local officials said that NCR had ignored their inquiries as
rumors began that the company was leaving Ohio.
- The effect on Dayton will be severe: “Dayton will take a direct hit on
income taxes. It will make a difficult situation worse,” said Dayton
City Manager Rashad Young.
- Explaining the move, NCR CEO Bill Nuti wrote in a memo to employees: "NCR
needs to align itself for future growth and drive the lowest cost
structure in our industry."
