OAKWOOD — Parents of Oakwood Junior High School students were alerted Tuesday, Oct. 13, that an eighth grader has the H1N1 flu.
The letter parents received notifying them about the virus also included some very specific instructions that go beyond the mantras of “frequent hand washing” and “keep your hands away from your eyes and mouth.”
Parents are being urged to keep sick children home from school, particularly if the child has a fever or cough. If the child was ill and will be returning to school, they must be fever-free for more than 24 hours without the use of medication.
The letter also stated that parents should specify their child’s illness when phoning in an absence. Knowing specific symptoms can help monitor the spread of the flu, the letter continued.
On Sept. 29, parents of Harman Elementary School students received a letter stating that a student had been diagnosed with H1N1. It was the first case diagnosed for the schools.
Parents can check the school’s Web site www.oakwood.k12.oh.us or call 297-5328 and ask to speak to a nurse for more information.
