OAKWOOD — The Oakwood School District will be offering a H1N1 flu vaccination clinic on Nov. 16, according to an e-mail sent to out to parents and the public by school officials on Friday, Oct. 23.
The vaccine will be administered at the Oakwood Junior High and Senior High School building, 1200 Far Hills Ave.
The e-mail letter, signed by Oakwood Junior High Principal Dan Weckstein and Oakwood High School Principal Paul Waller, said that the district is cooperating with the Public Health Department for Dayton and Montgomery County by serving as a flu vaccination site for the students.
“All the (public school) districts are working with the Public Health Department in serving as vaccination sites,” said Oakwood Superintendent Mary Jo Scalzo. “It’s not just Oakwood, it’s all the (public school) districts in Montgomery County.”
As of Oct. 23, the district had received reports of 51 cases of students suffering with H1N1 flu.
Earlier this month, Scalzo told the Dayton Daily News that the health department was no longer reporting H1N1 cases associated with the school district and that the parents were now reporting the cases to the district.
In order for a student to receive the vaccine, parents must provide the district with two documents. The first document gives the health department permission to administer the vaccine and the second document deals with whether the parents want to be present at the school when the vaccine is administered to their child. The forms have to be turned in to school offices by Nov. 3.
Parents in need of information packets for vaccinations at school can get them by downloading the packet from the district web site – www.oakwood.k12.oh.us . Click on Important Announcements, H1N1 Information updated regularly, and look for Information Packet For Vaccinations at School.
Print copies are also available at the schools’ offices.
