Snow arriving overnight could lead to a slick morning drive today.
On Monday night, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said he expected the heaviest snowfall to occur overnight with about an inch of accumulation on the ground by sunrise.
Simpson said roads may be snow-covered and slick during the morning commute, but an abundance of salt left from the weekend should help improve driving conditions.
Another half inch of accumulation is possible this morning before the temperature rises to a high of 35, mixing in a few rain showers.
Areas south of Interstate 70 were forecast to get slightly more accumulation overnight than the north, but those areas will also experience more melting during the day, Simpson said. “By (this evening) a lot of places will have a grand total less than what they had at 9 a.m.,” he said.
The snow will finish melting Wednesday when it will be sunny in the morning with a high of around 40 degrees.
Thursday will be cloudy with rain and a high of 44 degrees.
Friday’s forecast calls for sun and highs in the low 40s.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington reports accumulation totals between seven tenths of an inch and two inches for Friday and Saturday’s snowfall.
Two inches of snow was measured in Eaton, while spotters in Butler County reported one and a half inches as did spotters in Springfield. Most of Montgomery County got about one inch.
