DAYTON — Firefighters could not immediately determine the cause of a fire that heavily damaged an apartment in the 400 block of Briarwood Avenue on Monday afternoon, Feb. 8.
Crews were dispatched to the Falcon Ridge Apartments at 414 Briarwood Ave. about 3:35 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they spotted flames in the front room of the apartment, one of eight in the two-story building.
Firefighters quickly got the fire under control, but not before two cats and a dog belonging to Joni Tangeman, the apartment’s occupant, died. Tangeman said she was at work when the fire broke out.
Tangeman said she has lived alone in the apartment for about three years. She said she will move in with her son until she can find a new apartment.
