MONROE — A Hamilton police officer has resigned and has been arrested on public indecency charges, according to Monroe police records.
Justin Lunsford, 27, of Redwood Drive, Trenton, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of public indecency and voyeurism.
Occupants of the Parkside Inn, 5853 Hamilton Middletown Road, reported seeing a man naked from the waist down walking around the hotel parking lot at 12:50 a.m. on Nov. 30.
When Monroe police arrived they found Lunsford sitting in a black SUV, according to police records. Because his hands were not visible, he was ordered out at gunpoint, at which time he identified himself as a Hamilton police officer, according to the police report. Lunsford said he was not armed.
After being handcuffed, Lunsford told police he had been coming from Putter’s Restaurant on Cincinnati Dayton Road and had stopped to urinate outside the motel because it was “a dark place,” records indicate.
Police said they asked him why he did not stop at the nearby Speedway Gas Station, which had a public rest room, and Lunsford responded “I didn’t have anything to do with Speedway,” records show.
A witness at the hotel told police she had seen Lunsford park his car, leave it while not wearing pants, walk a short distance, squat and defecate, then return to his vehicle before putting his pants back on, according to police records.
Lunsford was turned over to Hamilton police at the scene, but came to the Monroe Police Department on Tuesday, when he was charged with two counts of public indecency and two counts of voyeurism, all misdemeanors, police records show.
He was booked and released from the Butler County Jail. Neither the Monroe Police Department nor the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office would explain why Lunsford was charged with voyeurism or the other charges.
Lunsford resigned from the Hamilton Police Department last week after the department was informed of his arrest and his supervisor called to ask him about the allegations, Hamilton police Sgt. Steven Henderson said.
Monroe Police Chief Greg Homer said Lunsford wasn’t arrested at the scene because the case took a week to investigate.
Lunsford was hired in 2007 and worked as a patrol officer for the city, said Henderson.
Detective Gregg Myers of the Monroe Police Department referred all questions to the prosecutor’s office.
Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser said he would not discuss the case before it went to trial.
“Not all the relevant facts of a case are contained in released investigative reports,” Gmoser said.
