DAYTON — Members of the public will get the opportunity to meet the two finalists for the job of Five Rivers MetroParks executive director on Friday, Jan. 28.
Current executive director Charlie Shoemaker retires Feb. 28. A final decision on his replacement is expected in early February. The finalists are Rebecca A. “Becky” Benná and Stephen Madewell. Benná is director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Glendale, Ariz., and Madewell is director of Lake Metroparks, Lake County, Ohio.
The public meetings:
Cox Arboretum MetroPark Friday, Jan. 28.
• Madewell: 9 to 9:40 a.m.
• Benná: 9:50 to 10:30 a.m.
Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark Friday, Jan. 28
• Madewell: 10:30 to 11:10 a.m.
• Benná 11:20 a.m. to noon
Seating is limited so members of the public who wish to meet the candidates are asked to reserve a place by calling (937) 275-PARK (7275), or by making a reservation on the Five Rivers MetroParks website at www.metroparks.org.
Shoemaker earns $126,089 annually.
Both finalists have ties to the Miami Valley. Benná’s first professional job was as a program supervisor for the city of Kettering. From 1994 to 2005, she directed parks and recreation for Miamisburg. Madewell held positions from 1979 to 1986 with the Greene County Recreation and Parks Department. He served as director with Geauga Park District in northeast Ohio and held several positions at Lake Metroparks prior to assuming his current role there as director. Madewell lived in Trotwood and West Milton while growing up. He has worked for Lake Metroparks since 1988.
