Three people remain hospitalized and criminal charges may come following a Saturday collision on the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail.

The head-on collision between a Honda 400 cc quad-runner and a recumbent bicycle happened at around 9:50 p.m. Saturday night, May 23, and is being investigated jointly by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio State Parks department.

Officials with the state parks department would not release the names of the people involved.

The collision occurred by New Burlington Road in Corwin, when a 41-year-old father and his 18-year-old daughter, both of Corwin, were riding the four-wheeler northbound on the bike trail, while a 57-year-old man from Michigan was riding south on the bicycle, said Russ Knepper, Cowan Lake regional manager for the Ohio State Parks.

It was very dark out, Knepper said, and the bicyclist was known to use lights at night and follow all safety precautions. Knepper added that the ATV may also have had lights running, but it’s illegal to have motorized vehicles on the trail.

All three people were flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton where they remain hospitalized with severe injuries, Knepper said.

The crash remains under investigation; some level of charges are likely to be filed, Knepper said.

There are alot of people in corwin who own atvs but have no land. Why buy an atv if you have no where to drive it?? I saw someone with less than half an acre driving one up and down his tiny property... what a great investment.

Assuming the idiot to ATV driver recovers and is charged, his attorney will probably argue that all the NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES signs are not illuminated and cannot be seen at night.

Glenn-according to the Warren County Sheriff's department, the trail is open 24 hours 7 days a week to non-motorized traffic.

And please do share what rules the cyclist violated?

The trails are for walkers and bicyclist. If you don't have a place to ride an ATV, don't buy one. Has anyone heard about the condition of the bicyclist? Glenn, are you stupid?
