Tiffany Tehan admitted she knew her actions were wrong during the four days she and Tre Hutcherson ran away to Florida, but said she wanted a chance to start over.

“I won’t deny it was totally selfish,” Tehan said in and interview with Inside Edition, which aired at 7 p.m. Thursday.

“I’m totally embarrassed and humiliated ... The only reason I’m here now with you is to try to maybe set some things straight. And, ask people to forgive me and give me another chance,” she said.

Tehan, 31, said the couple of eight months hatched the plan to escape over a four month period. “The plan was to get in the car and head down to Florida and start a new life ... We tried to disappear and let people make their own conclusions.”

Inside Edition host Deborah Norville appeared live on Good Morning America Thursday and said Tehan and Hutcherson gradually developed their plan to run off together as they repeatedly met at the Circle K convenience store on Watervliet Avenue in east Dayton.

The plan culminated with Hutcherson driving a nail into a front tire of Tehan’s SUV, then pulling the nail out to let the tire go flat. Kettering police found the SUV parked at Indian Riffle Park on Sunday, April 18, across Stroop Road from where Tehan had shopped April 17. The keys were in the ignition.

Miami Beach police found Tehan and Hutcherson, 42, at a Miami Beach hotel on April 22. Tehan and Hutcherson returned to Ohio last weekend.

The Xenia mother said the national search for her and Tre B. Hutcherson, and subsequent media attention, was overwhelming.

After travelling more than 800 miles to an EconoLodge motel in northern Florida she and Hutcherson discovered they were the center of media attention, but decided to keep driving.

“It was like we were so far in, how do we get out of it?” she said.

Tehan and Hutcherson continued their “vacation” in Miami Beach, visiting the beach and walking around. “I can’t say we were really having fun, because we knew what we were doing was wrong,” Tehan said.

An Inside Edition reporter said cell phone snapshots the two took in Florida looked like a couple on their honeymoon.

When asked about her marriage Tehan told Inside Edition that her husband, David, treated her well and that she did not flee because of any form of physical or mental abuse. She said she ran away simply because she fell in love with Hutcherson, whom she met at the Circle K in fall 2009. Tehan worked nearby. “Being around him made me happy,” she said.

Tehan said she couldn’t be who she wanted to in her “normal” life and “a divorce wasn’t as simple for me as it sounds … wasn’t even an option” due to her spiritual beliefs. She said she did not believe anyone would miss her if she disappeared.

As for leaving her 1-year-old daughter, Tehan said she knew her family would take good care of Alexis.

“She’s got a wonderful father, wonderful grandparents, wonderful aunts and uncles.”

David Tehan and Tiffany Tehan’s parents, Chuck and Susie Tabor, did not return phone calls seeking comment after the show aired.

Talking about the future, Tehan said Hutcherson is a “very special” person who makes her happy.

Jane Velez-Mitchell reported on CNN’s Headline News Thursday evening that Tehan has leased an apartment in the area for six months.

Hutcherson’s side of the runaway story will be aired on Inside Edition at 7 p.m. Friday, April 30.
