Seasonal flu shots to resume Monday

DAYTON — Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County will resume seasonal flu vaccinations starting Monday, Nov. 23.

The Public Health Clinic in Dayton has received a limited amount of seasonal flu vaccine and will give adult flu shots from 8-11 a.m. Mondays through Fridays until the vaccine is gone. The clinic will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Health departments in Montgomery, Miami and Greene counties exhausted their seasonal flu vaccines for adults in October because of increased demand this year, according to regional public health officials. Officials attributed the demand to awareness created by coverage of the H1N1 flu virus.

Seasonal flu vaccine will not protect people from the H1N1 virus, Public Health officials said.

Annual vaccination against seasonal flu is recommended for all people who want to reduce the risk of becoming ill with flu or transmitting it to others, according to Public Health officials.

People at increased risk of complications from seasonal flu include children ages 6 months through 18 years; people ages 50 and older; pregnant women; adults with chronic medical conditions and/or weakened immune systems; heath care workers; and people who live with or care for those at high risk, including infants under 6 months.

The Public Health Clinic is in the lower level of the Reibold Building, 117 S. Main Street, Dayton.

The cost for adult seasonal flu shots at the clinic is $20, based on ability to pay. Medicaid, Medicare or private health plans may cover the fee, according to officials.

seasonal flu vaccinations are complete garbage. It is completely inappropriate to use public funds to pay for such nonsense. If you can't stand having the flu and feeling sick for 3 days, at least have the decency to pay for it out or your own pocket.

God forbid we set health recommendations based on FACTS and studies and data. The reason folks over 65 were not recommended first line for H1N1 vaccines is because only 2% of the cases were in adults over 60, at least in the first few months of the pandemic. Seasonal flu tends to affect older adults disproportionally, so they are first in line for seasonal flu vaccines. It's quite simple. Leave the conspiracy theories at home.

"Is the cutoff for eligibility 65 like for H1N1?"

No.

That sort of destroys the basis for the rest of your rant. It amazes me how far and how fast from reality the wingnuts can get, building fairy tales on nothing but their bias and then behaving as of those fairy tales accurately reflect reality.

Is the cutoff for eligibility 65 like for H1N1? This would reflect the Federal policy toward the over 65 demographic after passing health reform which further robbs older adult taxpayers who have worked their entire lives.
