A few days after high temperatures flirted with 60 or higher, parts of the Miami Valley are experiencing freezing rain this morning — and the possibility of snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to a National Weather Service forecast.
The NWS office in Wilmington says it will rain much of the day today, with a chance of flurries in the northern parts of the area. Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 40.
On Tuesday night, however, there’s a 30 percent chance of snow showers followed by a 40 percent chance on Wednesday, the weather service said Saturday.
“There’s no way of knowing how much snow we’re going to get,” said Myron Padgett, a forecaster with the NWS Wilmington office. “Probably nothing major.”
He noted that what’s expected to pass through the area is a front, not a winter storm.
Temperatures for February are expected to continue to be above normal, much like December and January in what has so far been a mild winter, Padgett said. But we could still see cold days, even with continued abnormally warm temperatures, he added.
AccuWeather has called for “more consistent cold” in the Great Lakes region, including Ohio, for next week and beyond.
“There will be some colder temperatures by the end of the week,” Padgett said.
WHIO-TV’s forecast looks for rain to ease by the afternoon, with a possible shift to light snow in some areas by morning.
