BEAVERCREEK — The 31-year-old Beavercreek man wanted in his father’s slaying has been taken into custody in West Virginia.

Pardeep Saini was apprehended at a house of worship in Moundsville near Wheeling by the West Virginia State Police, Beavercreek police Capt. Jeff Fiorita said late Tuesday afternoon.

Fiorita said detectives tracked Saini’s credit card and found that it was used at about 10:30 a.m. at a fast-food restaurant. Saini was known to frequent a nearby house of worship called the Palace of Gold and that is where police intercepted him, Fiorita said.

Beavercreek detectives are on their way to West Virginia to interview Saini. There will be a hearing Wednesday concerning his extradition to Ohio.

Police began searching for Saini on Tuesday in the death of Onkar Saini, 66, who was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds Monday morning in the residence at 2436 Rumford Way at about 6:30 a.m. Police declined to specify a possible motive for the shooting and did not indicate how many times he had been shot.

The Greene County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday performed the autopsy but declined to comment and referred all inquiries to Beavercreek police.

According to court records, Pardeep Saini was ticketed into Fairborn Municipal Court on a couple of traffic violations. Greene County Common Pleas Court records show he filed for divorce in June 2006 from Poonandeep Kaur after six months of marriage. The divorce was declared final in December 2006.

Next-door neighbor Sungmee Kim told reporters that they have been neighbors for 11 years, and the only commotion at the home occurred several years ago when a female resident suffered a heart attack. She said a large family lives in the home where the body was found.

“They keep to themselves,” Kim said. “They are very nice people.”

According to Greene County auditor’s records, the two-story house built in 2000 is owned by Onkar and Ramesh Saini.
