WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating two weekend car accidents, one of them fatal.
The first accident occurred at about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, and sent two people to the hospital.
Dustin A. Snow, 24, of Sabina reportedly was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse east on U.S. 22 in Clinton County when he drove left of center, overcorrected and lost control of the car.
The car then went off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail and overturned.
Snow and his front seat passenger, Carrie D. Snow, 36, also of Sabina, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were ejected from the vehicle.
The two were transported via CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.
Patrol reports indicate that, although the crash is still under investigation, unsafe speed and alcohol appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The second was a fatal accident that took place at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Mary B. Hodges, 28, of Hillsboro was driving a 1994 Ford Probe westbound on Ohio 506 in Brushcreek Twp. in Highland County.
Like Snow, Hodges reportedly drove left of center, overcorrected and lost control. However, when Hodges went off the right side of the road, her vehicle struck a tree.
Patrol reports note that Hodges was trapped in her car for a short time, was freed by nonmechanical means and taken to Highland District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Unsafe speed and alcohol reportedly were a factor in this crash as well, according to the highway patrol.
“We need everyone to slow down, buckle up and avoid drinking and driving,” said Ed Mejia, Wilmington assistant post commander.
