SPRINGBORO —The official count of Warren County ballots on Monday, May 18, closed the margin, but failed to turn failure to passage, for the five-year, 4.11 mill levy sought by the Springboro Community City Schools for new operating money.

The official Warren County tally was 4,590 to 4,367, slightly narrowing to 111 what was already a margin of less than two percent — including a single precinct in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County officials said the result was unchanged after the official count. The levy passed 174-62 in the precinct in the school district.

Tammy Grigsby, chair of Neighbors for Springboro Schools, said the group had already accepted the result.

“We felt we fought a good fight. It just didn’t go our way,” Grigsby said.

For supporters, the narrow margin was somewhat encouraging.

Three times in 2008, voters in the district rejected levies for new operating money. Prior to the May election, the best result had shown a margin of 14 percent, with 43 percent of voters for the levy.

On Monday, Grigsby said the levy committee was focused on fund-raising for future levies.

The board has until May 21 to decide whether to seek a levy in a special August election.
