SPRINGFIELD — A single car crash at 10:48 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, on Haddix Road just west of Spangler Road left the driver in critical condition.
The driver, Richard Risner, 38, of Enon, was listed in undetermined condition at Miami Valley Hospital this morning.
Sgt. Yvonne Thorne of the Ohio State Patrol in Clark County, said a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Risner westbound on Haddix Road, slid off the left side of the road when he lost control. The car struck a utility pole and overturned onto its top with the pole resting on the car, she said.
Rescue crews had to wait for Ohio Edison to turn off the electricity to get Risner out of the vehicle, she said. They had to use the jaws of life to extricate him. It took about 45 minutes to get him out of the car and he was transported to Miami Valley Hospital via CareFlight, she said. He was listed in critical but stable condition, Thorne said, as officers were able to talk to him during the extrication. They cited him with failure to control and O.V.I. She said he was driving with his license under suspension, had no seat belt on, and had an open alcohol container in his car, found in close proximity to his feet.
Thorne said the state patrol, Mad River Twp. EMS and fire department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
