Tea Party planned for Springboro

SPRINGBORO — The Tea Party Movement is coming to Springboro on Saturday, Oct. 24.

A local conservative activist and music promoter has organized a rally with a musical component, inspired by those held around the country that draw tens of thousands of supporters.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Sonny Thomas plans to kick off festivities, including music and speeches, at North Park, off North Main Street (Ohio 741), just north of Central Avenue (Ohio 73) in Springboro.

“We’re really concerned about the spending of the government,” Thomas said. “When it comes to my money, I expect some accountability.”

Members of the band Sister Machine are expected to share the stage with representatives of the John Birch Society and Buckeye Firearms Association.

Among other scheduled speakers are the directors of the Montgomery County and Franklin-Springboro library systems. Both are promoting passage of tax levies for their systems on Nov. 3 election ballots.

Libraries across Ohio are seeking local tax levies to offset state funding cuts.

“They’re not an anti-tax group. They’re anti-wasteful tax,” Franklin-Springboro Director Anita Carroll said Friday, Oct. 23.

Thomas said he decided to put together the first Springboro Tea Party a month ago after attending events in Dayton and Cincinnati.

He encouraged supporters to join him Saturday.

“Be creative. Bring signs, bring flags, just be respectful,” Thomas said.

If 'Was There' was really there, you wuld have noticed the video that was playing by 11.15. STP featured the acclaimed documentary by the late Aaron Russo, AMERICA: Freedom to Fascism. I was transfixed for the whole hour and a half by the content of this DVD. Thank you STP for showing that vidoe as a primer to the event!

Then why do all the liberals make a big deal of the tea parties if we aren't making a difference? If it didn't matter, no one would notice, would they? I do believe the townhalls and the tea parties do make a difference to our elected senators that will be voted out in 2010 if they float along with this administration.

Leslie,

NOBODY!! is scared. Thats the problem with these silly gatherings.

Who cares if you're out there standing around?.

Seriously WHO CARES??

You're not affecting campaign money, you're not affecting policy, you're not making politicians nervous about re-elections.

NOBODY CARES!!! You're NOT making a difference.

These "parties" are a HUGE waste of resource.

And the fact that so many of you can't see this, is exactly why we think you're a little light on brain power.
