Tiffany Tehan “bawled” Wednesday night as she told her parents she would come home.

“She was remorseful,” her father Chuck Tabor said Thursday, April 22. “She was sad.”

But Tabor and his wife, Susie, said their daughter didn’t say when she would return from Florida.

Tiffany Tehan told Miami Beach detectives that she left Ohio voluntarily “with the intent of starting a new life,” according to police.

Her husband, David, said his wife sounded unsure about returning to her old life. “I don’t think she was ready to decide,” he said. “We will see her. She did say that.”

He added that it was wonderful to hear his wife’s voice, “There are things I don’t understand, but I can’t be angry.”

Acting on information from Xenia police, Miami Beach detectives found Tehan and Tre Hutcherson and his recently purchased 2002 Chrysler Sebring on Wednesday night, Miami Beach Sgt. Wayne Jones said Thursday.

The two had been staying at the International Inn hotel, Jones said.

Tiffany Tehan’s statements to police revealed a “romantic” relationship with Hutcherson, Jones said.

“When we were able to tell her parents that she was safe and that we had accomplished that goal, then our part was done from a law enforcement perspective,” Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger said.

The trip to Miami Beach might not have been spur of the moment.

On Friday, April 16, Hutcherson visited Clem D’$ Auto Sales along North Dixie Drive and said he wanted to trade in his red Volkswagen Beetle because he “had to leave town and needed a better car,” said the lot’s owner, Clement Dare, on Thursday.

Dare traded the Sebring with 190,000 miles for the 1999 Beetle, with Hutcherson paying an additional $200. Hutcherson put new plates on the car and drove off alone. A short time later, Dare said he realized that a set of dealer plates were still in the back seat of the Chrysler. Dare contacted Hutcherson, who returned to the dealership. It was then Dare saw a woman in the car. He said she looked a lot like Tehan.

“I have no comment for the press at this time,” Hutcherson said Thursday by phone. “We’re just trying to figure this out.”

Hutcherson declined to comment when asked if he was with Tehan.
