OXFORD — A 1-year-old boy who was struck by an SUV Friday afternoon in Oxford has died.
The child was hit around 4 p.m. in front of 134 Michelle Drive while his mother was talking to a school bus driver. Police said the child, who had been standing on the sidewalk with two older siblings, left the sidewalk and stepped in front an SUV operated by Randalla Wright.
The child was immediately transported to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Wright currently is being detained by the Oxford Police Department for driving under suspension and having a warrant issued by the Fairfield Municipal Court.
The incident is still under investigation and additional charges are pending, according to Sgt. Jim Squance.
