KETTERING — A 41-year-old Troy man now has to register as a Tier 1 Sex Offender after being accused of making sexual advances towards an 11-year-old girl.

Norman Plantz of the 1300 block of Spruce Street, was being held in the Montgomery County Jail late Wednesday after being convicted of two counts of importuning, a third degree felony, in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. Plantz was arrested after he was sentenced Tuesday to serve concurrently 18 months of incarceration on each count, according to Greg Flannagan, spokesman for the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s office.

The Tier I Sex Offender status means that Plantz will have to make annual verification of his address with the local sheriff’s office for 15 years.

Plantz came in contact with the 11-year-old through the girl’s mother, according to Kettering Police Officer Michael Burke. He declined to comment any further on the nature of the relationship between Plantz and the girl’s mother.

The girl’s mother contacted Kettering police in February after her daughter told her about the sexual advances, which Burke said occurred between November of last year and February.

Kettering Police Detective Gina Bier investigated the claim and consulted with the county prosecutor’s office. Plantz later surrendered himself to police after his attorney made arrangements with the prosecutor’s office. However, he was never booked into Kettering’s city jail.
