DAYTON — The University of Dayton will increase undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board 4.25 percent for fall 2010, bringing the total annual cost of attendance to $39,430.
It is the lowest percentage increase in a decade, according to Teri Rizvi, university spokeswoman.
Still, with the increase, UD’s tuition and fees will have risen from $16,070 for the 2000-01 school year to $29,930 next year. That doesn’t include meal plans and housing fees.
University officials will increase budgeted financial aid by $5.1 million to help financially needy students, allocate $2.8 million to finish a two-year restoration of Stuart residence hall and target $1.9 million in compensation increases for faculty and staff.
In addition, UD will invest in a number of curricular and faculty development initiatives, as well as the development and renovation of new classrooms in NCR’s former world headquarters, which UD purchased in December for $18 million.
“We are committed to continuing the University of Dayton’s forward momentum by investing in curricular innovations and student housing,” UD president Daniel J. Curran said.
About 95 percent of UD students receive financial assistance. Last year, UD said it awarded more than $61 million in institutionally funded and need-based aid.
UD is the largest private research university in Ohio, with 10,908 undergraduate and graduate students for fall 2009.
U.S. News and World Report listed UD as one of the nation’s top values in the 2010 edition of “America’s Best Colleges.” UD ranked 36th on its “Great Schools, Great Prices” list.
UD is in the midst of a five-year, $42.5 million project to renovate residence halls.
