DAYTON — A US Airways jet bound for Indianapolis from Charlotte, N.C., diverted to Dayton International Airport minutes ago after its crew reported a problem with the nose gear.

The Canadair Regional Jet landed safely Thursday, Nov. 12, at approximately 6:13 p.m., said Linda Hughes, spokeswoman for Dayton International.

The Dayton airport has a maintenance facility and a crew is checking the airplane to see if the 50 people who were on board will have to board another plane to finish the flight to Indiana, Hughes said.

The airport’s fire department was put on alert when the plane’s crew contacted the airport to report the problem, according to police and fire radio communications.

According to US Airways, the flight left Charlotte at 4:10 p.m.

I think that was a wise move to divert to a maintenence facility. Most likely it was an idicator problem not an actual malfuction. This allowed qualified people to look at it and get the passengers on to their destination SAFELY. Also eleminated canceling the outbound flight that aircraft was going to fly and having to reroute those folks. These aircraft makes 7 to 10 stops a day and recieve regularly scheduled maintenence checks all the time. The reason you have safe 15 yr old planes flying now

and you don't think the mainline jets do those kinda turns either. southwest took a lot when the plane crashed in midway and hit the gas station. they did 30 min turn time on their 737's.

FAA should ground this airline and inspect all the aircraft in the fleet. Some of these airplanes are used too often that such and necessary maintenance checks go underlooked. I fly frequently and the plane lands at one destination and thirty minutes later it will take off and fly 6 hours in a different direction. Is there a cause for concern here?
