CENTERVILLE — The Washington-Centerville Public Library plans to host a Red Rally for Ohio Libraries on the front lawn of the Centerville Library, 111 W. Spring Valley Road, at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25.

Librarians across the region are expected to attend as well as members of the public, all of whom will wear red as a show of support for their local libraries. The rally is in response to Governor Strickland’s most recent budget proposal which recommends a 50 percent budget cut to libraries across the state. The new budget must be finalized by Tuesday, June 30, and proposed cuts would devastate the services of libraries throughout Ohio. Currently, more than 70 percent of Ohio’s public libraries depend totally on the state for funding and cutting the budget could involve significant cuts to services, acquisition of materials, hours of operations, staffing and more. All libraries, including those with local levies, will be seriously impacted by such drastic measures.
