Waynesville manager applies for Florida job

WAYNESVILLE — He’s one of 99 applicants who have submitted an application for the job of city manager of Marathon, Fla., but Waynesville village manager Bruce Snell, said he’s “pretty content” with his current job.

The Florida Keys Keynoter reported on its Web site that Snell submitted an application prior to the Nov. 20 deadline for the position.

Marathon, Fla., is located in the Florida keys, about halfway between Key Largo and Key West, and has a population of about 10,686, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Snell said the application was submitted “to humor” his family and said he has “no aspirations of getting an interview.”

Snell, who has been Waynesville’s manager since 2006, said he “was through there years ago on his honeymoon and that it was a neat part of the country.”

“I work for a nice council and the vast majority of the community is very supportive,” he said. “I like it here.”

Snell served as Mason’s assistant city manager from 2001 to 2006. He said Waynesville has been working its way out of fiscal emergency status since April 2008.

“We’ve made a lot of headway but we still have a long way to go,” Snell said.

I agree that pointing the finger at one or two is not the solution to this.

The current situation has been unfolding for years.

It is not the VM or the Mayors 'fault'
I do however know that the Water Dept is a key player in this and you can not trust the billing, anymore than we can trust the use of funds.

We did vote council in, good thing because if we voted no they would impose themself.

"without a vote"
Council needs to consider these 3 words carefully.

It amazes me that a group of small minded thinkers are upset that the Village Manager applied for another position. First they want him gone, when he thinks about his family and applies for this position you are offended. It is common practice to move up to larger municipalities, when you are in this position. I am ashamed that you blame him when we voted in council who actually votes in legislature, not VM. Lets not grip over water bills or lawn mowing, when we are to blame for the lame ducks

Yes Darla. Please talk on. And please, all villagers, read every tortured, garbled and incoherent word.

This is the mouthpiece for Boss Hogg. Why should we raise our property taxes, gut our services and continue to send Waynesville taxes to other towns? Now it's because Darla has joined the National Organization for Women.

You're not reaching a big enough audience, Darla. Please write a letter to the editor. You deserve more publicity on your crusade.

Manipulated before anyone feels the need to point that out.

Typing Teacher always told me not to with long fingernails.

I myself have questioned the "Home rule/Charter" since 2006.

In watching the way that this is manuplated, Council has done little to convince me and apparently 68% of the citizens they do not deserve this.

Pointing and casting blame, especially on one or two people is only taking the focus off what needs to be accomplished.

Spending time bending ORC's could be spent on solutions?
This is not a personality issue.
