WEST CARROLLTON — The West Carrollton school board on Wednesday cancelled plans to cut 24 staff positions, fall sports for freshman and middle-school athletes, and limit busing before residents vote on a November levy.
The board already reversed one step taken after voters rejected a November 2011 levy. It reopened buildings closed after school to non-school programs.
The board now plans only to cut four administrative positions in 2012.
“All levy adjustments will be suspended until we know the outcome on Nov. 6,” Superintendent Rusty Clifford said during a board meeting.
The board reopened buildings after school in January after a new community group, Pirate Kids Matter, questioned the legality of the policy.
The group also began a petition drive, urging the board to use reserve funds to finance proposed cuts.
Clifford said the decision to reverse position was in response to growing realization of a “total transformation of education in Ohio.”
