CONCORD TWP, Miami County — An 87-year-old Troy woman was killed Wednesday, July 22, when her car was hit by another vehicle as she attempted to turn from Lytle Road onto County Road 25A, just north of Troy.
Vida Nelson died following the 3 p.m. collision, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies, who continue to investigate the accident, said Nelson was attempting to turn from Lytle Road north onto County Road 25A when she pulled her 1999-model Oldsmobile into the path of southbound traffic.
Nelson’s car was struck by a car driven by Marianne Shepard, 50, of Casstown. A second southbound vehicle driven by Pauline Garozzo, 65, of Piqua, was struck by debris from the crash. Shepard was taken to nearby Upper Valley Medical Center, where she was not listed as a patient Thursday.
The accident was one of two in Miami County on Wednesday that resulted in fatal injuries.
At about 5 p.m., Jackie Holland, 72, of Greenville, died in a crash on Ohio 49, a half mile north of Ohio 721 in western Miami County.
The Ohio Highway Patrol said Holland, driving a 1987 Chevrolet hatchback north on Ohio 49, tried to pass a pick-up truck at high speed and clipped the rear of the truck. The hatchback then hit a 2003 Honda Accord, which was south on Ohio 49. The hatchback flipped on its side, and Holland died at the scene, troopers said.
