SIDNEY — A woman fell off the back of a motorcycle on Interstate 75 at the northern edge of Sidney Wednesday evening, and the motorcycle driver kept going leaving her injured on the pavement, said Sgt. Paul Weber of the Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Weber said investigators were able to track the driver down, and they placed Paul S. Webster, 27, of Sidney in custody about four hours later.

The passenger, Alexsis Wildermuth, 24, of Sidney, broke one leg in five places and had other serious injuries, Weber said. She was first taken from the scene by ambulance to Wilson Memorial Hospital and was later flown by CareFlight helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital. Wildermuth was listed in serious condition Thursday morning.

Weber said she was in serious condition Wednesday night, but no information on her condition was available Thursday.

Weber said the couple were traveling north on I-75 at about 8 p.m. Wednesday on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle. Witnesses said the motorcycle was going about 65 to 70 miles an hour.

When the driver accelerated, Wildermuth fell off, and the driver kept going, Weber said.

Based on information gathered at the scene, troopers were able to determine who was driving, and they executed a search warrant at a residence and arrested Webster.

He was cited for aggravated vehicular assault, aggravated leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license, Weber said. Webster was being held in the Shelby County jail Thursday morning and was scheduled for arraignment later in the day.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet, and investigators believe alcohol and excessive speed may have been factors in the accident.
