UPDATE: Woman died from head injury, was not run over by sister
DAYTON — A woman run over and killed during an apparent fight with her sister Saturday, July 4, has been identified as Cheryl Satterfield of Dayton.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office began conducting an autopsy on the 44-year-old South Smithville Road resident’s remains today, July 5. Results would not be available until Monday, according to the coroner’s office.
The two women were involved in an ongoing dispute over several days that culminated in the physical fight, said Lt. Brian Johns of the Dayton Police Department.
“To my knowledge there was no history of violence between those sisters,” Johns said.
Satterfield punched her 42-year-old sister through the open window of a car in which the younger woman was sitting shortly before 11:50 a.m. Saturday, police said.
She grabbed on to the car when her sister began to drive away, police said.
Satterfield was dragged along the street and eventually fell on the pavement. She was run over by the car near 1217 Valley St., police said.
No charges were filed Saturday and the sister has not been identified.
Police are awaiting toxicology test results for the driver, which will take one to two weeks, Johns said.
That and other evidence, including witness statements, will be presented to the prosecutor’s office to determine any criminal charges.
“It is my understanding that it is leaning not toward a homicide, not toward an actual intentional act of violence, but more as an accidental (death),” Johns said.
