WASHINGTON TWP., Montgomery County — Eight homes near the intersection of East Social Row Road and Grand Vista Drive were evacuated this evening, Aug. 13, as fire crews investigated a natural gas leak.

Road construction crews pierced a gas line at the intersection and ran to a nearby fire department about 5:40 p.m., Washington Twp. Fire Capt. Ron Kern said.

Families were displaced for about two hours and about 30 homes remain without gas at 9:15 p.m., Kern said.

There were no injuries.

Crews are repairing the leak and Kern said he wasn’t clear when natural gas would be restored to the homes.
